The 2021 Population and Housing census will provide disaggregated information to update the Ghana Multidimensional Poverty Index (G-MPI) Speaking at the UNSC Side-Event on Multidimensional Poverty Indices: An SDG Indicator, an Official Statistic and a Policy Tool” on 25th February, the Government Statistician and Chief Census Officer, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim affirmed the commitment of the Ghana Statistical Service to regularly updating the G-MPI. These upates will ensure that the nation has relevant, timely and quality statistics on the incidence, intensity and distribution of multidimensional poverty. For that reason, the 2021 PHC questionnaires will collect information on all 12 indicators needed to update the G-MPI.
 

The G-MPI is an important tool for tracking progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 1. It measures multidimensional poverty under the dimensions of living standards, education and health and builds on the Global MPI by expanding and adapting it to reflect the Ghanaian context.
