A delegation led by the Government Statistician and Chief Census Officer, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, paid a courtesy call on the Central Regional Minister, Honourable Justina Marigold Assan in Cape Coast on Monday 12th April. The purpose of the courtesy call was to provide a briefing on the status of census implementation and officially hand over census implementation to the region.
Professor Annim thanked Honourable Assan for the audience and touched on key areas of intervention where the strategic support of the Regional Minister was needed. These included in ensuring that persons living in areas with boundary disputes are counted, provision of secure storage space for logistics and office space for district census officials, facilitating the successful training of Field Officers in educational facilities and making public statements on the census as part of publicity, education and advocacy efforts in the region
Hon (Mrs.) Assan on her part also thanked the delegation for the visit and expressed how passionate she was about the census given its importance. She stated that based on her previous experience as a Municipal Chief Executive, she understands what conducting a census entails and would support to ensure that there is complete coverage in the region. She pledged to mobilise and coordinate the MMDAs to champion the census in the region. She also urged the census implementation team to effectively engage with stakeholders on the ground to make them feel part of the process and ensure their support.
