A delegation led by the Government Statistician and Chief Census Officer, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, paid a courtesy call on the Regional Minister for the Volta Region, Honourable Dr. Archibald Letsa in Ho on Thursday 8th April. The purpose of the courtesy call was to brief the Honourable Minister on the status of census implementation and officially hand over census implementation to the region.
Honourable Dr. Letsa welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation to the team for the courtesy call. He expressed his hopes for a successful census given the importance of statistics for development. He stated that the census will provide basis for information and for planning purposes. He highlighted that with his public health background he had worked with and appreciated the data generated from the census. He concluded by expressing his appreciation for the work that the Ghana Statistical Service is doing and promised to provide all the needed support for the census implementation in the region.
Professor Annim also expressed his appreciation to the Honourable Minister for the welcome and giving the team the opportunity to meet with him. He provided a briefing on census implementation and highlighted the main objectives of the census which was to achieve complete coverage and collect quality data. He highlighted the following main areas where the support of the regional leadership was needed – to facilitate data collection in areas where there are boundary disputes, to sensitise the public to understand the enumeration procedures and the wealth of data to collected from the census, and to provide logistical support for census implementation in districts within the region.
